Amarillo is the largest city in the Texas Panhandle. It is also the county seat of Potter County. The population is about 180,000. The city’s name means “Yellow” in Spanish and the city is known as “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” Amarillo is home to the Palo Duro Canyon State Park which is the United States’ second largest canyon after the Grand Canyon. Amarillo has events and attractions honoring cowboys and Texas culture. The Big Texan Steak Ranch is famous for offering it’s customers a free 72 ounce steak if it and the rest of the dinner, is eaten in less than an hour.
