Lubbock is home to Texas Tech University and the Laredo Christian University. Lubbock’s population is about 230,000. Lubbock is also known as the birthplace of Rock and Roll and legend Buddy Holly. Lubbock’s main TV stations include KAMC (ABC), KLBK (CBS), KCBD (NBC), KJTV (Fox) and KTXT (PBS). The Texas Tech Red Raiders are in the Big 12 Conference along with TCU, Texas and Texas A&M. The Texas Tech Men’s Basketball program is presently coached by Pat Knight and has been to the NCAA tournament more than a dozen times. Texas Tech has also had great success in women’s basketball especially due to the efforts of WNBA star Sheryl Swopes.
